Filipino Ship Captain Honored for Bravery

BATANGAS, PHILIPPINES – The local government of Batangas lauds the Filipino Captain of a Greek-owned oil tanker for his bravery at sea.

Captain Manolo Ebora, the captain of Liberia-registered tanker ‘Green Aura’, was handed a commendation from Batangas City Vice Mayor Emilio Francisco Berberabe, Jr. for his ‘exemplary display of bravery and courage’ after he stood up to the Chinese Coast guard who were preventing them entry from a contested area in the West Philippine sea last October.

“[His bravery and courage] highlighted his belief in standing and fighting for what is right and just in line with his performance of duty as a captain of his assigned vessel,” the award read. The city’s Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod also praised Ebora for his “patriotism, vigorous support to the country and for being an outstanding citizen of Batangas City.”
