International Safety Management (ISM) Code Familiarization

The Crossworld Marine Services Inc. conducted the ISM Code awareness training for all the crewing operation Manager and staff last Nov. 16 & 17, 2015.

The Familiarization training was facilitated by Mr. Ramoncito A. Mendoza, formerly the Training Manager of this company and now the Operations Manager. The above training will help the staff understand the objectives of the three (3) conventions under the ISM code, they are the SOLAS, STCW, and MARPOL convention. The familiarization focuses the importance of STCW qualification and training required of all the seafarers to take.

The training also emphasizes the functions of Port State Control, Maritime Labor Code, ISPS code and other convention or codes concerning or related to ISM provision. All the 13 Section of the ISM Code were discussed giving focus on sections important for the office staff to understand the importance of compliance to the code, and to make sure that the qualification and training is properly implemented in the office. There are workshops during the sessions, namely planning and non-conformity reporting to better understand the main objectives of those sections.

The participants appreciated the importance of the code not only protecting the sea and the marine environment but also what the codes contribute to make ships safe places to work in.
